Canvas USA® Cookie Policy · v1.3
Effective Date: October 29, 2026
Replaces versions 1.2 and 1.1 of October 29, 2026, and version 1.0 of September 1, 2026.
This policy explains how Canvas USA® uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, what each one is for, and how you control them. It covers more than cookies: it also covers pixels, tags, software development kits, and the browser storage our own tools use.
The short version
We use a small number of cookies to make the site work — to keep you signed in, hold your cart, and remember your language. Those are required and cannot be switched off. Everything else — measuring how the site is used, and advertising — is optional, and you choose. You can change your mind at any time, and declining costs you nothing but a slightly less tailored experience.
We do not sell your personal information for money.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can recognize your device on the next page or the next visit. Some are set by us. Some are set by services we use. Similar technologies do the same job by other means — a pixel is a tiny invisible image that reports a page was loaded, a tag is a small piece of code that reports an action, and local storage lets a page remember something in your browser without a cookie at all. Where this policy says "cookies," it means all of these.
The categories we use
1. Strictly necessary — always on
These make the website function. Without them you cannot sign in, keep items in a cart, submit a form, or check out safely. They also protect the site against fraud and abuse. Because the site cannot work without them, they are not optional and no consent is asked for them.
2. Preferences
These remember choices you have made — your language, your region, a selection you made in a product configurator — so you do not have to make them again. If you decline these, the site still works, but it will forget your choices between visits.
3. Analytics and performance
These tell us how the website is actually used: which pages people reach, which ones they leave, what they search for, where something is broken or confusing. We use this to fix problems and to build better pages. This is measurement, not identification — we are looking at patterns across many visitors, not building a profile of you.
We use analytics services to measure pages viewed, searches, where visitors arrive from, product and cart steps and page speed, and to run the session recording and heat maps described in section 5. They may receive an approximate location (city or region) worked out from your IP address. They set their cookies, and session recording runs, only after you accept optional cookies. The table below shows what is live right now, and we keep it current.
4. Advertising, retargeting and measurement
These are used to show Canvas USA® advertising on other websites and services, to avoid showing you the same advertisement repeatedly, and to measure whether an advertisement led to a visit or a purchase. They typically involve a pixel or tag provided by an advertising platform, and that platform may recognize your browser across other websites that use the same technology.
Advertising activity of this kind may be treated as a "sale," "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some state privacy laws — even where no money changes hands for your information. We would rather say that plainly than hide it in a definition.
These are not running on this website today. When we do switch them on, we will update this policy first, they will be listed in the table below, the cookie banner will ask your permission before any of them load, and a clear opt-out control will appear on our website. We will honor it, and we will honor an automatic Global Privacy Control signal without you having to ask.
5. Session recording and heat maps
These tools record how a page is used — where a mouse moves, what is clicked, how far down the page people scroll — and combine many visits into a "heat map" showing which parts of a page get attention and which get missed. We use this to find the places where a page is confusing, a button is hard to reach, or a form is losing people.
We are looking at the page, not at you. Where we use a tool like this, typing is hidden, personal details are hidden before anything leaves your browser, and checkout, your account and any page where you enter payment or contact details are never recorded at all.
This runs on this website only after you accept optional cookies. The provider acts as our service provider — it handles the information on our instructions and does not use it for its own purposes or for advertising. In a recording, the words on the page are replaced with symbols, typing is hidden, forms are not recorded, and recording stops on the cart, checkout and account pages. If you choose essentials only, it does not load at all.
What is running right now
This table is what is actually on the website as of the effective date above. We keep it current.
| What | Category | Status | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
session_id | Strictly necessary | In use | Keeps you signed in and holds your cart. Protected so that it cannot be read by scripts and is only sent over a secure connection. | 7 days |
frontend_lang | Strictly necessary | In use | Remembers the language the site is shown in. | About 1 year |
| Cookie choice | Strictly necessary | In use | Remembers the choice you made on the cookie banner, so we do not ask again on every page. | Until you clear it |
| Website analytics | Analytics | In use | Measures how the website is used — pages viewed, searches, where visitors arrive from. Sets its cookies only after you accept optional cookies. | Up to 2 years |
| Website improvement analytics | Analytics | In use | Measures pages viewed, product and cart steps, page speed and approximate location (city or region). Loads only after you accept optional cookies. | Until you close the browser tab |
| Visit source | Analytics | In use | Remembers how you arrived — a search engine, a social site, an email or a tagged link — so an order or a request can be credited to it. Loads only after you accept optional cookies. | 31 days |
| Browser storage used by our own tools | Preferences | In use | Our shade and fabric browser, product search, and Captain Dave assistant remember what you were doing on the page — a search, a saved selection, a conversation in progress. This stays in your browser. | Until you clear it |
| Session recording and heat maps | Session recording | In use | Records how pages are used, with page words and typing hidden; never on the cart, checkout or account pages. Loads only after you accept optional cookies. See section 5. | Uses the storage in the row above |
| Advertising and retargeting | Advertising | Not in use | Not in use today. See the section above. | — |
Checkout also involves our payment processor, which uses its own strictly necessary cookies to process a payment securely and to prevent fraud. We never see or store your full card number.
Your choices
The cookie banner. When you first visit, you can accept optional cookies or choose essentials only. Choosing essentials only does not limit what you can buy or do here.
Changing a choice you already made. Use this button — it clears the stored choice and the banner will ask you again.
Your choice is saved per browser and per device, because it is saved in a cookie. That means it does not follow you: if you visit us from your phone as well as your computer, or from a different browser, or after clearing your cookies, you will be asked again. That is a limitation of how cookies work, not a trick to reset your choice.
Your browser. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most let you be warned before one is set. Look under Settings or Privacy in your browser's menu. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop the cart and checkout from working.
Global Privacy Control. Some browsers and extensions can send an automatic signal telling every website you visit not to sell or share your personal information. We recognize that signal and treat it as a valid opt-out for the browser that sends it, without asking you to do anything else.
Do Not Track. Older browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. No common standard was ever agreed for what a website must do with it, so we do not act on it. Use Global Privacy Control instead — that one we honor.
If you live in California, Texas or another state with a privacy law
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or of its use for targeted advertising. We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we never discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right.
We do not sell personal information for money, and we are not using it for targeted advertising today. If that changes, this policy will say so before it happens, and a clear opt-out control will appear on our website. See our Privacy Policy for the full description of your rights and how to exercise them.
Who else receives this information
The services listed in the table receive the information their cookies collect and handle it under their own terms. We do not allow them to use it to build advertising profiles from our website except where you have consented to advertising cookies. We do not give your information to anyone else for their own marketing.
Changes to this policy
When we add a service that sets cookies, we update this policy and the table above before that service goes live, and we change the effective date at the top. Where the change means new optional cookies, the banner will ask for your permission again.
