Materials & Construction
This product is a one-step resin-based paint protectant, not a wax or ceramic coating, formulated to flex with paint or gelcoat while providing strong hydrophobic protection and lasting shine.
Product Description
Why you'll want it
- Wash day goes faster. The coating is hydrophobic, which means water beads up and rolls off. DiTEC says it can cut your cleaning time by up to 50%.
- Bends with the boat. Unlike wax or ceramic, it is made to flex with your paint or gelcoat rather than crack. It also guards against oxidation, UV light, grime and exhaust build-up.
- Enough for a bigger boat. This 100ml (3.2oz) bottle covers about a 30 to 40 foot boat. Non-skid takes more product than smooth gelcoat, so plan for that.
- Coat it before winter storage. Fall is a good time to clean and coat the boat before it goes into storage. Pick a mild day, since DiTEC says to apply it at room temperature.
What it is
PROTEC1 is a one-step clear resin coating made by DiTEC Marine Products for boats and cars. It is non-ceramic and SiO2-free, so it is not a ceramic coating. It goes on paint, gelcoat (the glossy outer skin of a fiberglass boat), metal, non-skid and glass.
How to use it
- Work at room temperature, as DiTEC advises.
- Plan on using more product on non-skid than on smooth gelcoat.
- Follow the directions on the label for each surface.
What else the job needs
Most coating jobs start with a good wash, so a boat soap and soft microfiber towels are worth having. DiTEC also names its Quick Coating as a top-up every 60 to 90 days.
