Materials & Construction
Gtechniq Ceramic Base is a liquid ceramic coating applied to boat gelcoat, where it cures into an extremely hard, durable protective layer that resists swirls and minor scratching while retaining gloss.
Product Description
Why you'll want it
- Helps prevent swirls and scratches. The coating forms a protective barrier that is extremely hard and exceptionally durable. The description says it is effective at preventing swirling and minor scratching from poor washing.
- Keeps the gloss looking strong. The description lists great gloss retention and a crystal clear finish. Your boat keeps its shine longer with this coat on the gelcoat.
- Adds UV protection for your gelcoat. It provides UV protection to help guard the gelcoat from sun exposure, which is useful on a boat that spends its days in the sun.
- A good job for fall haul-out. If your boat comes out of the water for winter storage this fall, this is a good time to do the job. Once applied and cured, the coating becomes the functional surface of the gelcoat, so later washing is done on the coating itself.
What it is
Gtechniq Ceramic Base is a liquid ceramic coating from Gtechniq Marine, applied to boat gelcoat. Once it cures, it forms an extremely hard, durable layer that becomes the functional surface of the gelcoat. It comes in a 250ml bottle.
How to use it
- If you apply it directly to the gelcoat or topcoat, polish the surface first to remove any imperfections.
- Degrease the surface with Gtechniq Panel Wipe and a Gtechniq MF1 Microfiber to remove all polish residue.
- Soak the application pad with the product.
- Spread it onto an area no more than 2 feet by 2 feet, then remove the residue with a Gtechniq MF1 Microfiber.
- The amount you need is 0.5 to 0.7 ml per square foot, or 5.5 to 7 ml per square meter. It varies with the microporosity of your gelcoat or topcoat.
What else the job needs
Good to have on hand: a panel wipe and MF1 microfiber, which the description names for the prep and wipe-off steps. Polish is also used before applying, to remove imperfections.
